Doula care
To birth and to be born are two of life’s great transformational processes, initiating us into new realms, shaping our lives, and linking us to our ancestral, collective, karmic, and phylogenetic lineages. I offer holistic doula care, integrating physical, emotional, and psychospiritual support through whatever your journey of birth.
My care as a doula includes:
-
Water, movement, touch, and breath are profound natural healers, offering a gateway to deeper embodiment, connection, and trust. I provide a therapeutic and ceremonial setting for individuals and small groups to explore the cyclical wisdom of women’s reproductive lifespan and delve into a range of supports within a womb care practice, including pelvic steaming, mindful movement, self-massage, and diaphragmatic breathwork. These time-honoured rituals nurture the body and heart, promoting circulation, relaxation, and balance while supporting physical, emotional, and energetic wellbeing in a way that resonates uniquely with each person. Each practice invites awareness and integration, easing tension and encouraging the natural flow of energy throughout the body. For women of all ages and phases of life, you are invited to slow down, reconnect, and honour the seasons within.

If you are considering any aspect of doula care at any time in your birthing journey, I welcome you to connect for an initial conversation. This is an opportunity for us to meet and learn more about each other, for you to share anything you wish about your experience and intentions for your birthing process, and for us to begin to discuss any ideas, questions, or concerns you may have about your birth and how doula care may be a part of this journey. If there is another parent, caregiver, or support person who will be taking an active role during pregnancy and in the birth and life of your baby, their presence is welcome and encouraged during this introduction and in any work we may do together. My hope is that you may come away from this conversation with some new ideas, awarenesses, and intentions for your pregnancy and childbirth, feeling grounded and connected.

Your prenatal visits are a special time to check in about anything and everything that is arising for you as your birth approaches. This may include exploration of your own birth and life experiences, discernment around your philosophy and intentions relating to your care and the birth of your baby, and much more. These visits are intended to offer a supportive environment in which to connect and explore the wonders of pregnancy and childbirth, with a focus on pre-birth bonding, compassionate birth practices, birthing anatomy, biomechanics, and hormonal physiology, phases of birth, and anything at all that may be of curiosity or special interest to you. This may also be a time to make special connections with any traditions or practices that you may wish to honour and include in your birthing journey. I welcome the gamut of personal, interpersonal, and transpersonal facets of childbirth that may resonate for you. My intention during prenatal visits and birth preparation is to invoke and affirm just how innately capable and equipped you and your baby are for the very journey you are on together.

In all aspects of birth, knowledge is power. The knowledge you integrate as your birth approaches helps prepare you to move through this process with self-awareness, inner guidance, and trust in your birth’s unfolding. Wherever and with whomever you birth, bringing this knowledge with you can help you make informed choices that are aligned with your birthing philosophy and intentions, and conducive to the conditions of a gentle, undisturbed, and ecstatic birth for you and your baby. Conscious birth preparation is about activating your awareness and connection with the wisdom of physiological birth, rooted in nature’s brilliant blueprint and your own primordial power. This may include exploration of your innate birthing anatomy, biomechanics, and hormonal physiology, reclamation of matriarchal birth tradition and oral lineage, and preparation with intuitive practices and self-guiding comfort measures for an attuned and embodied experience of pregnancy and childbirth. Before, during, and after birth, I offer relational and somatic practices to support and encourage the development of a welcoming and nurturing bond between you, your baby, and loved ones. My hope is that this may be a journey of self-discovery in which you find yourself and your baby to be more capable, conscious, and connected than you may have even imagined. This process is woven into all prenatal visits and is ongoing.

During prenatal visits, special time is available for discussion of pregnancy nutrition from an integrative perspective. This is an opportunity to take stock of all that you are already doing to nourish yourself and your baby in body, mind, and spirit, and to explore practical strategies to help you meet your unique nutritional requirements during pregnancy and beyond. I share information and resources from a variety of sources, tools for self-awareness and learning, and ideas for simple, healthy, and affordable meal planning for your pregnancy. I am available to support and encourage you in any nutritional, lifestyle, and mindset shifts you may feel called to during your pregnancy. My hope is that you may come away from these discussions with a sense of how enriching and straightforward investing in your pregnancy nutrition can be for you and for your baby’s lifetime.

I encourage you and your support person or partner to stay in contact with me between prenatal visits so we may continue to share updates, information, and resources as you approach your birth. There will be ample opportunity for us to discuss any of your ideas, questions, or concerns as they arise, and to check in before and after appointments with any care providers. I offer day and night on-call support from around 38 weeks until your birth, including back-up coverage for the duration of any period I am unavailable. I continue to welcome updates and check-ins after your birth and between postpartum visits as needed. My intention in offering on-call time is to provide a robust container of support as you and your baby move through this life-shaping experience.

My mantra as a doula comes from Dr. Michel Odent: “One cannot actively help a woman to give birth. The goal is to avoid disturbing her unnecessarily.” In attending and supporting your birth, my intention is to offer a grounded, attuned, and versatile presence so that you may focus your energy and awareness where needed. You will have access to self-guiding comfort measures and intuitive practices to help you feel as resourced as possible as your birth unfolds. I will be available to help you nourish, hydrate, rest, move, and position as needed, for any contact or support that may be helpful, to support and relieve your support person or partner as needed, and to help ensure that your birthing environment as a whole is as conducive as possible to a gentle, undisturbed, and ecstatic birth for you and your baby. I can also help you decide when to contact your chosen primary attendant (if any), and help facilitate discussion between you and medical providers (if any) to ensure that you are informed and confident about any decisions that may arise during your birth. I will remain available as needed throughout your birth and in the initial hours after your birth has completed. I consider it a sacred experience and immeasurable privilege to be present in the ceremony of birth.

The placenta is an intimate collaboration between a mother, her baby, and beyond. This vital organ mediates, sustains, and guides life, connecting us to the very source of our being. The gifts of your baby’s placenta, this extraordinary Tree of Life, extend through the birthing journey into your baby’s lifetime. I offer information, resources, and a range of supports around placenta and umbilical cord integrity, including undisturbed physiological placenta birthing, delayed cord severance, and lotus birth, so that your baby may experience the myriad benefits of their placenta as they emerge and are welcomed to life on land.

Your postpartum visits are another strand of the continuous web of support available to help hold your birthing process. This is another special time to check in about anything and everything that is arising for you, having just been through something ineffable. This is a space to be present with all that has unfolded and all that is unfolding still in your journey. After your birth, you will naturally be integrating new awarenesses, feelings, and understandings about yourself, the birth of your baby, and beyond. During postpartum, I am available as you process and integrate this experience, supporting you as needed as you explore its meaning and impact in body, mind, and spirit, and how this all relates to everyday life. Postpartum care may include integration support around your birth experience, the arrival of your baby, your initiation into parenthood, new family dynamics, and all that you may be experiencing in life after birth. I offer therapeutic, ceremonial, and practical support around postpartum healing, bonding, and nurturing care during infancy and early life, as well as referrals for any additional postpartum support as needed. If there is another parent, caregiver, or support person who will be taking an active role during postpartum and in the life of your baby, these offerings extend to them as they discover their unique role in your family. My intention in postpartum is to honour and nurture this time of unparalleled learning, bonding, and growth for you, your baby, and loved ones as your journey continues.

I work with people through a whole range of experiences relating to birth and lifespan development. If you feel you may benefit from therapeutic and ceremonial space in which to hold, process, and honour your own birth and life experiences, whatever they may be, I welcome you to reach out to discuss.
